VISIT JEJU

Jejumok-Gwana served as the central administrative hub for Jeju from the Goryeo to the Joseon dynasty.

Taking inspiration from historical documents like the "Tamna Sullyeokdo" (Treasure No. 652-6), a beautifully detailed painting by former Jeju Moksa (governor official during Joseon Dynasty) Hyeong-sang Lee, the reconstructed Jejumok-Gwana (official building) offers visitors a glimpse into the rich culture of Jeju. Here, one can admire architectural gems and participate in traditional folk games such as seesawing and Tuho, the arrow-throwing game. 

Located within Jejumok-Gwana, Gwandeokjeong is the oldest existing structure in Jeju and can be considered the heart of Jeju's history. Upon entering Gwandeokjeong, you can admire seven mural paintings including depictions of the Ten Longevity Symbols, Red Cliff Battle, and big game hunting.

While at Jeju Mok-Gwana, it's worth ascending to Gwandeokjeong for a panoramic view of Jeju's downtown. During the evening, Gwandeokjeong is a particularly serene spot with soft lights casting a warm glow over the murals. The tranquil ambiance of the approaching evening creates an irresistibly mesmerizing atmosphere.

Just a short 5-minute walk from Mok-Gwana, you'll find a charming hanbok rental shop, Poem, Studio Hue. Nestled between the stone wall behind Jeju Mok Gwana's tower and an elementary school.

The studio is a picturesque photo zone, complete with folk paintings and a blossom-filled tree. With an array of props on hand, visitors can capture the essence of the hanbok's traditional charm. The choice between classic and contemporary designs makes selecting the perfect hanbok part of the fun.

At the Jeju Folklore and Natural History Museum, visitors who are naturally analytical and contemplative with strategic eyes will be delighted. 

The museum offers insights into Jeju's myths, the island's formation, local folklore, and marine life. Particularly popular among children is the hands-on marine specimen section in the Jeju Ocean Exhibition Hall, where children can feel connected to Jeju's underwater world by seeing what they have only seen in textbooks and books.

The sweet craze isn't just a phenomenon. Gaeseong Juak and Yakgwa are some of popular sweet deserts of the day. In Jeju, traditional desserts like "gireum-tteok (oil rice cake)" are as just sweet and popular. Made from buckwheat or rice flour, these star-shaped desserts are fried to perfection and sweetened with sugar.

At Hyoseon Tteokbang, visitors can make their own colorful gireum-tteok using Jeju's natural ingredients and dyes, such as beets, sweet pumpkin, and gardenia blue powder, creating a visually delightful and tasty experience. Kneading doughs and tasting the sweet traditional Jeju dessert offers you with a unique experience.

Additionally, the “Tea with Jeju Essence” made from carrots, burdock, beets, hallabong, and black tea not only pairs well with the tteok but is also beneficial for health and digestion.
