머체왓숲길

Why do you feel better when you walk in a forest path with lush greenery? Just close your eyes and let the chirping of wild birds wash over you. Stretch your arms out wide and take a deep breath. With each breath, nature will fill you with pure, clean air and remove the impurities stuck deep in your lungs. You will find that this level of freshness is exhilarating.

The word meochewat is unfamiliar even to Jeju residents. “Meoche” means a place where stones are piled up and overgrown with weeds, and “wat” means field in the Jeju language. Put these ideas together and you get the meaning of “a forest road full of stones and trees.”

After a pleasant 2-hour walk through cypress, camellia and cedar trees (among other wild plants), you will emerge refreshed and more in touch with nature than ever before. The path is divided into two: Sorongkot Trail (6.3km, 2 hours and 20 minutes) and Meochewat Forest Trail (6.7km, 2 hours and 30 minutes).

Located along the middle of Meochewat Forest Trail is a resting place and observatory. In the cedar forest of Sorongkot Trail, you can spot an example of a dwelling where residents lived many decades ago.

Meochewat also runs a program where you can try a cypress foot bath that uses brewed herbal tea and mandarin enzyme tea. You can rest your weary feet, have a healthy snack and take in the pleasant view after your healing hike in this lovely Jeju forest.
