To protect the vegetation of Baekyaki Oreum Volcanic Cone and allow for regrowth, access to portions of the summit area, including the highest peak, are currently restricted as per the extended Natural Rest Year system (from August 1, 2024, until further notice).

※ All trails excluding the summit area remain open to visitors.

Baekyaki Oreum is located about 3.5 km northeast of the entrance to Seongeup 2-ri in Pyoseon-myeon. Positioned on the border between Songdang-ri in Gujwa-eup, the oreum is named as “Baekyaki,” meaning “One Hundred Medicines,” because medicinal herbs have grown on the peak naturally since ancient times. It features a gently rounded crater called “gumburi” in the local dialect, within which grow herbs such as Asian calamint, Elsholtzia ciliata, mugwort, Isodon japonicus, self-heal, and chaff flower.

To reach the oreum, drive for about 40 minutes from Jeju City along the East Industrial Road to reach the entrance of Seongeup Ranch in Seongeup 2-ri. Upon entering the ranch, another volcanic cone, Gae Oreum, will be visible standing to the left like a sentinel. A crossroad is found past the management buildings for the ranch: follow the straight cement-paved road on the left until it ends near a lone structure, which serves as a rest shelter for ranch workers. Beyond this structure lies Baekyaki Oreum. Walking past a cattle watering trough, a roughly 30-minute climb will bring you to the summit, where a sunken crater unfolds before your eyes like a circular stadium.

Following the track-like ridge around the summit, you can enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding oreum: to the east are Jwabomi Oreum, with several rocky hills standing in front of it; to the northeast lie Geomi Oreum and the connected Munseoki Oreum; behind them stands the grand Nopeun Oreum; to the north is the wide-cratered Abu Oreum; to the west are Min Oreum and Bichimi Oreum; to the southwest lies Gae Oreum; and to the south, Yeongjusan Mountain can be seen far off in the distance.

In October, beautiful silver grass blooming along the walking trail. The gentle slope makes it an easy climb, making it a perfect choice for families with children. We highly recommend this oreum for those who wish to take a light hike while admiring the sea of silver grass in full bloom.
