Seogwipo Natural Recreation Forest is the southernmost natural recreation forest in all of Korea. The forest keeps artificial plantation to a minimum in order to preserve the natural mountains and forests of Jeju as much as possible, offering a refreshing environment for relaxation and forest bathing. The high altitude (700 meters above sea level) keeps the forest cool year round, resulting in a 10°C temperature difference compared to downtown Seogwipo. This makes it a particularly pleasant place to visit from spring to autumn, perfect for forest bathing, hiking, and camping. As you drive up the well-maintained road from the base of the mountain toward the forest, you’ll encounter exotic species of tree rarely seen elsewhere in Korea. Furthermore, each curve of the road reveals stunning vistas of Seogwipo City and the ocean spread out below, leading many to stop their cars and get out simply to enjoy the view.

Upon entering the forest, you will be surrounded on all sides by lush greenery. We recommend removing your footwear to walk barefoot along the path and fill your lungs with the refreshing, woody fragrance of phytoncides, natural substances released by plants to ward off germs and other pests, which are said to have a purifying and healing effect on the human body when breathed in or absorbed through the skin. The natural, untouched forest is home to a variety of wild flora and fauna; as you continue your walk along the forest trail, you might spot roe deer or squirrels, hear the sounds of the white-bellied woodpecker, and see numerous rare flowers. If you climb up to the observatory located within the forest, you will be rewarded with a panoramic view of Seogwipo City and the vast blue Pacific Ocean.

Reservations for camp sites can be made through the “Forest Trip (Supnadeul-e)” website, with wooden decks available for pitching tents alongside the trails through the cypress and cedar forest. The decks are spaced quite far apart for privacy, and carts are available to transport luggage. Cooking is allowed only in the designated camping area, though charcoal or LPG gas canisters are not permitted within the forest.
