Located west of Jeju City in Hagwi is Bibari Jjamppong. It features mussels, crab, and hearty vegetables such as cabbage, fried in the Chinese style. There’s an abalone squid jjamppong and a clear broth jjamppong as well. The fried sweet and sour pork and cream jjamppong are perfect for people who prefer to avoid spicy food.

Handmade noodles made in the Chinese waySutamyeongga


This Chinese restaurant makes its own noodles. The chefs use their culinary skills to twist, stretch and fold the dough by hand. The restaurant, which is next to the main highway and across from the ocean, is easy to find as there’s a very long, skinny dragon attached to the side of the building. Its seafood jjamppong includes octopus, abalone, mussels, and seaweed. There are all sorts of sauces and flavors to choose from. If you’re especially hungry, feel free to ask for more noodles, as they offer free refills.

Famous for its soy sauce jjamppongBoyeongbanjeom (Hallim)


This Chinese restaurant, which has been in operation since 1967, is a well known spot right near Hallim Port, Jeju’s largest western port. It has a lot of history, but the restaurant’s building is relatively new and tidy. The jjamppong soup has thinly sliced fish cake, mackerel and a variety of vegetables, so it is light and not particularly spicy. Note that it is on a main road so there’s no parking around the restaurant, though there are a number of free parking lots nearby, within 50-100 meters or so.

This spot is near Sehwa Beach and its colorful buildings and landmarks. Since this restaurant specializes in jjamppong, there are plenty of kinds to choose from. Mussels, oysters, crab, shrimp, abalone, and more feature in this open kitchen’s dishes. Other items include a pork and veggie black bean sauce noodle dish. Its fried sweet and sour pork is an excellent addition to your soup order if you’re particularly hungry or with friends.

Savory meat broth jjamppongMuljilsikyuk Sikdang


Unlike other jjamppong restaurants, this one isn’t Chinese but rather has a distinctly Korean vibe. It’s a third-generation run business, and if you’re one to shy away from seafood, then its famous meat broth is a great choice for you. They also offer udon soup, pufferfish soup and stew, and homemade pork dumplings. Being in Seogwipo it’s a bit out of the way, but Gangjeong Village is quiet and comfortable.

Crab soup bursting with flavorDeokseongwon


First opened in 1945, this is a third-generation Chinese restaurant. There is no difficulty finding it because it is a two-story building near the Lee Joong-seop Street in Seogwipo. Deokseongwon is famous for its crab jjamppong, in which the meat is boiled loose in the broth. Even a single spoonful bursts with crab flavor. In addition to its jjamppong is a less spicy version, and they sell fried sweet and sour pork, pork dumplings, and noodles in black bean sauce.
