- Surrounded by NatureFinding Tranquility in Jeju’s Mountain Hotels
While many people come to Jeju for its coastal views, the island’s inner parts have a lot to offer. Here you’ll find Hallasan Mountain—Korea’s highest peak—as well as plenty of volcanic hills and forests just waiting to be explored. It is typically easy to drive or get the bus to these regions. An alternative is to stay in a mid-mountain hotel. If you choose one of these accommodations, you’ll typically sacrifice the convenience of being in a built-up area for the tranquility of being surrounded by nature. Does that sound like a deal you’re happy to make? Then take a look at these five hotels in Jeju countryside
Hotel Nanta is a large hotel situated in the area just above Jeju City. Its location means the entrance to the Seongpanak trail—which takes walkers to the summit of Hallasan Mountain—is only a short drive away, as is Gwaneumsa Temple and Saryeoni-sup Forest path. The hotel isn’t too remote, though, and you can reach much of Jeju City in under 30 minutes by car. The hotel itself has four types of room, including standard, deluxe, premium, and suite. Each one has a view out towards the sea or Hallasan Mountain. Other facilities include a fitness center, convenience store, and various business rooms. The hotel gets its name because it is located next to a theater that puts on daily performances of Nanta. This is a show that tells its story using a mix of acrobatics, comedy, and traditional Korean samul nori music performed using cooking utensils. As there is no talking, it is a good evening entertainment even for those who don’t speak Korean.
Hotel Toscana is a hotel located in the countryside on the south of the island. As you may guess from the name, the Hotel’s design is inspired by the mountainous Tuscany region of Italy. The hotel has a heated pool that is open all year round, as well as a spa and a gym. Those staying at the hotel have plenty of choices for food as there are four restaurants and cafes, including one by the pool. The hotel is located a short drive from both Seogwipo City and the Jungmun Tourist Complex. This means you have easy access to some of Jeju’s most popular natural sites, such as Jeonbang Waterfall and Saeyeongyo Bridge in Seogwipo and Daepo Jusangjeolli Cliff and Cheonjaeyeon Waterfall in Jungmun.

Podo Hotel was designed by award-winning architect Itami Jun. It is one of three projects by the architect in the area that also includes the Stone, Wind, and Water Museum and Bangju Church. The architecture is notable because from the ground level, the building appears to resemble Jeju traditional thatched houses, while from above, it looks like a bunch of grapes (podo means grape in Korean). The hotel is situated high-up in the Andeok-myeon countryside far away from the hustle and bustle of the city. This sense of quiet is heightened by the fact that the hotel only has 26 rooms. These include the presidential suites, that have a private outdoor pool, as well as royal and deluxe suites that have access to an outdoor garden. All rooms have a private aragonite hot spring for relaxing. There is also access to walking paths, guided tours of the building, and a restaurant that serves a local fusion menu.
The WE Hotel is a health resort situated on the south side of Hallasan Mountain. The hotel is surrounded by forest, making it the perfect hideaway to relax away from the city. The health resort aspects of the hotel come from the spa and relaxation programs, while guests can exercise by walking along the hotel’s trekking courses. There are also both indoor and outdoor swimming pools and a fitness center. In the evening, you can enjoy a cocktail or tea at the hotel’s Azalea Bar and there is also a restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The hotel is just a short drive from the Jungmun Tourist Complex where you can see Jungmun Beach, Daepo Jungsangjeolli Cliff, and Cheonjaeyeon Waterfall.
Hidden Cliff Hotel and Nature is a hotel situated in a closed-off area within the Jungmun countryside. This means it isn’t technically a mountain hotel, although it is certainly surrounded by nature. The highlight of the hotel is the infinity pool, which has views out into the forest and a waterfall. When swimming here it really does feel like you are in a lake in the middle-of-nowhere. Albeit, one that is heated and has conveniences such as pool chairs, a bar, and a sauna. If you need more help relaxing, visit the spa for treatments and massages. For food, there is a breakfast buffet as well as an all-day dining restaurant. If you’d rather head out, you’ll be pleased to know that while the hotel appears remote, the local area does have some restaurants. Check out craft beer pub Southbounder and Seomin Black Pork, a restaurant that serves the Jeju speciality black pork.
