- The place where people visit more in the winter than in the summerMore attractive with snow, <Tourist Attractions in Road 1100>
Road 1100 is at the highest altitude of our national highways. It is connected to many picturesque places like Eoseungsaengak Trail, Cheonma Ranch, and Yeoungsil, and is famous for its beautiful scenery in every season, attracting many visitors from abroad. Road 1100 has a view of Hallasan Mountain up above and an extraordinary view of Jeju’s landscape down below. Stay on this road for a while and find some spots you can enjoy these wonderful views of Jeju’s nature.

Completed in 1973, Road 1100 is 36.6 km-long in total and at a high altitude, with a wide view over the rich scenery of Hallasan Mountain. On top of the 1100 highlands, you can feel the cool breeze in the summer, and its frosty landscape in the morning and night in the fall makes it look like a view of the winter.

Next to the rest area, there is the Go Sangdon Park, commemorating the mountain climber Go Sangdon, who scaled Mount Everest for the first time in Korea and made a huge remark in Korea’s mountain climbing history. Alongside the statue of him, the white deer-shaped Baekroksang and Baekrokbi are standing next to each other. On a clear night, many photographers gather here to take pictures of the numerous stars in Jeju’s sky with Baekroksang. Unlike the downtown with many lights, 1100 Highland Rest Area is very dark to the point you can see the milky way with your bare eyes.

In the winter, more visitors come to this place to see the snowy landscape of Hallasan Mountain. When it snows, you can find many Jeju kids who come for the natural small sleigh places around Road 1100. In Jeju, where there is no sleigh park, this place is beloved by kids and families for fun.

At 1100 Highland Rest Area, you can have a tea and purchase Jeju’s local products. It will be nice to go up to the observatory and rest for a while, enjoying the view of the mountain. If you’re taking Road 1100 while traveling between Seogwipo and Jeju-Si, why not take a small break at 1100 Highland Rest Area?
Developed on the foot of Hallasan Mountain, 6 km away from the top of the mountain, 1100 Highland Wetland was registered as a wetland protection area in 2009, as well as a Ramsar wetland in the same year, for its value as a habitat for endangered species and rare species with its unique topography.

There are more than 16 wetlands discontinuously spread over the 1100 Highland area, and the wetland protection area has been set along these wetlands, with complicated boundaries between them. You can find various types of wetlands depending on the status and size of the surface runoff, such as ever-wet wetlands, wetlands where only a trace of water is left, and wetlands that have almost turned into land.
The natural educational trail is established at the 1100 Highland Wetland, so you can actually visit the wetlands. The wooden deck trail allows anybody to enjoy the wetlands comfortably, and the information boards about the animals and vegetation in wetlands are installed in many spots. The trail course is 675 m in total without any uphills or downhills, so it’s nice for kids to take a walk.
While walking down the trail, you can observe the exotic view and various plants of wetlands, sometimes even migratory birds and animals. Maybe it is called 1100 Highland Wetland because of its 1100 different looks.

When coming down from the 1100 Highland, top of the Road 1100, in Seogwipo-si direction, you will find Georin Deer Observatory. The name Georin Deer is made of the determiner “Georin,” meaning “Splitting” in Jeju, combined with the word “Deer.” It is called that way because it looks like the back of a deer or from the fact that many deers lived there.

Not a spacious spot, but it is considered as the Seogwipo scenery hot spot because of the amazing view from this place. You can literally say that you get the whole southern Jeju view from up here. On the left, you can see Seopseom Island, Seyeon Bridge, and Worldcup Stadium, while you can see Goonsan, Sanbangsan, and Songaksan Mountains on the right. On a clear day, you will even be able to see Marado Island, the southernmost of Korean peninsula.
