There are two types of Jeju sea. The beautiful one and the one you like. It is satisfying that you can find your own favorite sea in Jeju, as each sea has its unique mood. The east seas like Sehwa and Gimnyeong Beaches are bohemian style, whereas the west seas, such as Hyeopjae and Panpo have a fun and pleasant vibe. Hyeopjae beach is one of the most beloved seas.
Adjacent to Geumneung Beach, Hyeopjae Beach that embraces Biyangdo Island is a shallow sea with a gentle slope, revealing the silver sand beach like a mystic carpet at low tide. Is it because it sparks people’s imaginations? Visitors, from families on vacation to hip tourists, enjoy the sea in harmony. Woobin Kim and Jimin Han’s love story in <Our blues> stages around this area.
Certified as one of the world’s geoparks by UNESCO, you must visit here to get the best picture of your life with Jeju’s unique geography. From Yongmeori Coast to Sagye Port, on Seolkumbadang Beach, there are countless brown and black sand rocks with many, many holes, which were originally brown and black colored sand grains then solidified into rocks. These offer an exotic view.
Made of the rocks surrounding the beach in a circular pattern and the constantly circulating sea water beneath the rocks, Hwanguji Coast embraces the beautiful emerald green sea. Dakmeoreu Coastal Road, named for its resemblance of a chicken sitting in a pit, is one of the best spots to see the beautiful coastline and the evening sunset.
Old folks wishing a long life tried to see the Canopus in Seogwipo’s night sky in winter and lined up to get wet by the waterfalls in summer. Though it is smaller than Jeongbang Falls, located 300 m away, Sojeongbang Falls offers a rare view of water falling directly to the sea.
The height of the falls is around 7 m high, but this is a famous water-taking place for the traditional saying that getting hit by this water in mid-July (July 15th in the lunar calendar) makes people healthy for a whole year. The water from the falls is said to heal neuralgia, but it is unfortunate that the water is too cold to stay under for too long. You can find it midway of the Jeju Olle Course 6.
Most of the rain in Hallasan Mountain soaks into the ground and flows patiently beneath for a long time before finally coming out to the world, as clean and pure as the primal water.
This water, soaked in Hallasan Mountain as rain, flows through the aquifer, and blasts off at the seaside villages, is known as Yongcheonsoo (fresh spring water). Since it stayed underground for a long time, the water is icy-cold. Some places have become public baths or water parks that make use of this water. Nonjitmool, Samyang Setdarimool, and Dodu Oraemool are the famous spots.
In addition to sea bathing, surfing, sunbathing, and clam-digging at night, one of the hip ways to enjoy Jeju sea is diving, in which you can see the hidden treasures of Jeju and be one with the sea. Attracting 100,000 divers every year, Jeju has become a famous scuba-diving destination and boasts of its unique marine environment, combining the Korean marine ecosystem with tropical marine elements.
n particular, at the Seogwipo coastal sea, known as the mecca of scuba-diving, you can see the colony of red soft coral, as well as Jeju’s endemic species, various corals, and healthy marine life.
Udo Island is considered the most beautiful island that Jeju holds. Udo Island, another island within an island, presents the works of an Austrian master this time. An architecture themed by Friedensreich Hundertwasser, an Austrian painter, an architect, and an environmentalist, has been set on Udo Island.
The Hundertwasser Park is a complex cultural space that includes Hundertwasser museum, Hundertwasser Hills Resort, galleries, and cafes. The harmony of western art staging on top of oriental-painting-like Udo, which has the beauty of moderation and emptiness, adds another layer of art to Udo.
The only downside to a sunset is that it unifies everything into one single color, even the texture of the landscape. However, it’s different at Sinchang Windmill Coastal Road. The sea, the gazebo, the wind power generators, the lighthouse, and the rocks don’t get overwhelmed by the sunset and maintain their shapes and textures. The sunset glow rather gives a mystic aura to them.
Anyone walking in between them becomes a model and a part of the scenery, and anyone can become a poet under the sunset at Sinchang Windmill Coastal Road. The driving course through the wind power generators along the coastline is especially exotic, but the landscape of Chagwido Island seen at the end of the road is almost like an art. That’s why it is filled with visitors and photographers who come to capture the sunset view of Chagwido Island and Suwolbong Peak on a clear day.
Jeju in the summer is like a heaven for the campers. You can choose any campsite you want, from the campsites with forests like Donnaeko campsite, Moguri, and Gyorae Natural Recreation Forest, to the seaside campsites like Gimnyeong, Hwasun Golden Sand Beach, and Hamo Beach.

Jeju’s groundwater, filtered after staying underground for an average of 22 years, is considered the best quality water in Korea. Jeju’s groundwater is the volcanic rock water created in the aquifer of volcanic rocks and has lots of minerals. It is also soft and slightly alkaline, bringing out the best flavors of coffee or tea.
Many beverages have been developed from these traits of the natural groundwater of Jeju. Samdasoo, providing the cleanness of Jeju, is a long-running product with the best water taste in the country. When you drink Hallasan Soju with 70 years of history or Jeju Beer, the nationwide famous craft beer, you realize that the taste of water is the key to the taste of a drink.
