When you think of fall in Jeju, what comes to mind is likely the silver grass adorning the island’s fields. These silvery-white meadows evoke a serene and poetic atmosphere. Jeju’s silver grass fields, nestled amidst its natural beauty, offer a unique charm you won’t find elsewhere. You can stroll leisurely along oreum trails to soak in the scenery or enjoy a romantic drive along the coast. Let’s explore Jeju’s best silver grass spots.

Yongnuni Oreum derives its name from its hollowed-out crater, resembling the place where a dragon once lay. Among Jeju’s 360 oreums, Yongnuni is the only one featuring three craters.

Additionally, an elliptical crater opens slightly to the east and west, with the entire oreum gently sloping into a horseshoe shape toward the east. Its gentle slopes make it an easy hike, perfect even for beginners.

Just a short climb brings views of Seongsan Ilchulbong, and during sunset, you can enjoy stunning twilight skies. The oreum’s meadows, dotted with wildflowers like buttercups and pasque flowers, host freely grazing horses, creating a tranquil scene.

In fall, the vibrant silver grass transforms Yongnuni Oreum into a dreamlike landscape. The sight of ponies frolicking amid the silvery waves conjures a magical ambiance. A leisurely walk to the top reveals sweeping vistas that are both peaceful and awe-inspiring. A round-trip hike takes about 1 to 1.5 hours.

Named after its pointed cape-like shape, Seopjikoji lies along the Seogwipo coast, with dramatic cliffs and stunning rock formations. Atop a hill stands Hyopja Beacon Fire Station, a stone signal fire beacon retaining its ancient charm.

To the northeast, the red volcanic Red Oreum contrasts beautifully with the white lighthouse and blue sky. In fall, the Red Oreum dons a blanket of white silver grass, creating a picturesque transformation. The swaying silver grass accentuates the season’s charm.

Another highlight is the towering Seondol Rock, tied to a legend about a dragon king’s son who failed to win a celestial maiden’s love. Couples who make vows here are said to be blessed with great children. On clear days, you might spot dolphins swimming offshore, enjoy horseback riding for 10 minutes at 5,000 KRW, or simply marvel at grazing ponies. Visitors also flock here to see Tadao Ando’s Glass House. While stunning year-round, fall silver grass season is especially magical.

For those seeking a romantic fall drive, Geumbaekjo-ro is a hidden gem. Stretching from Songdang-ri in Gujwa-eup to Susan-ri in Seongsan-eup, this scenic mountain road spans 5 km of silver grass-covered fields during fall.

Instead of Jeju’s iconic coastal imagery, this area features emerald meadows and oreums blending into the horizon. Its fall views of blooming silver grass are breathtaking. With minimal traffic and a tranquil atmosphere, you can stop to capture stunning photos or simply admire the views.

On clear days, the azure autumn sky paired with the serene landscape enhances the experience. Notably, “Geumbaekjo” refers to Jeju’s farming deity—a fitting name for this naturally beautiful road. Glide through the silver grass fields and enjoy a drive steeped in romance.
