Imagine unwinding at a yoga retreat, clearing your mind in peaceful surroundings, or immersing yourself in a guided tour of architectural masterpieces left by world-renowned designers. As the winter chill settles in, nothing beats a steaming bowl of hearty soup to warm you up. Here are some favorite local spots where Jeju residents go for true comfort food. Start with eogomtang—a deeply flavorful soup made by slowly simmering croaker fish to extract its rich essence. The rich broth of eogomtang is so good, you'll find yourself finishing a whole bowl of rice in no time. Pair it with Jeju-style sundae, a local blood sausage specialty made with pork intestines. Another must-try, now trending thanks to a recent TV spotlight, is jeopjagbyeokguk. Jeopjagbyeok-guk, a traditional Jeju soup, offers a perfect balance of rich depth and nutty flavor. A steaming bowl of jeopjagbyeok-guk—made by slowly simmering pork bones until they create a rich bone broth, then adding buckwheat for a hearty consistency—is just what you need to melt away the winter chill.
▶ Namkyung Eogomtang (1F, 96 Yeonsam-ro, Jeju-si,)
▶ Geumha Galbi (23 Odeung 14-gil, Jeju-si)
▶ Hwaseong Restaurant (383 Iljudong-ro, Jeju-si)
When snack cravings strike, Jeju has plenty to offer. One must-try is a popular donut shop, where locals line up for freshly made, soft, and chewy twisted donuts, crafted by a former hotel chef. For a healthier touch of sweetness, indulge in handmade hangwa (traditional Korean sweets). Their Gaeseong Moyakgwa is perfectly chewy and naturally sweet. If you’re in the mood for something savory, try the hidden gem corn dogs. Each corn dog is made to order with glutinous rice flour and handmade sausages—a satisfying bite you’ll remember. Don’t miss the fire-grilled dumplings at Seogwipo Maeil Olle Market or Dongmun Market—they’re a delicious local favorite!
